ABOUT
Founded in 2014, The Postbox is a design forward, direct to consumer travel and lifestyle brand based out of Chennai, India. They design products that are at the intersection of being fashionable and function forward. Their mission is to build a well-informed global community that values genuine connections and artisanal excellence, embraces a mindset of quality over quantity, and aspires to be stylish, purposeful, and mindful in everyday living.
The team requested a graphic 3D illustration to vibe with the Christmas celebration of 2024 .
CHALLENGE

The graphic needed to be abstract to avoid visual confusion.
Primary research delved into curating elements and decoration items traditionally associated with the festival of Christmas.
Multiple textures would create visual clutter in the composition. Explorations were conducted using solids or and a singular texture in large volume.
PROPOSAL
(clockwise top left - studio lighting setup to studio lighting and overall composition, translation of colors into the elements, exploring brickwork as an accent texture against a concrete backdrop, exploring concrete as a primary texture backdrop)
Primary geometry is derived from abstract elements of a fireplace, pine tree and the bell decorations traditionally associated with Christmas. Gift boxes and baubles are scattered as accent elements highlighted in a bright red to add contrast to the composition. The arch symbolizes the fireplace mantle, a key element in Christmas celebrations.
Textures associated with the festival such as brickwork, red plastic, pinecones are explored as full and solid colors.
Podiums placed in the center of the composition to highlight importance and provide direct visual cue. T
SOLUTION
The overall palette is kept neutral, picking the major textures from brown wrapping paper packages, the green from the pine trees and the red baubles as accents across the entire graphic.
The baubles are made to "float" to add a touch of dynamism to the overall composition.
Fairy lights are added to the conical face of the "tree" to simulate the lights used as decoration.
